Sample Practical Nursing Courses
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic theories and principles of psychology. Among the topics covered are key figures in psychology and their theories, examples of research findings from the major perspectives of the field, and using psychological knowledge to improve the quality of our lives. Students will become acquainted with the major concepts and terminology of the discipline and obtain a better understanding of self and others. A combination of lectures, video clips, group discussions, and miscellaneous experiences will be utilized.
Anatomy and Physiology I
This course is an introduction to the structure and function of the human body. Accurate and current information is presented on the structure and function of human tissues and organ systems including the skin, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. Laboratory work parallels lecture topics and includes exercises in microscopy, anatomical identification, and dissection of preserved and fresh specimens.
This course is designed to provide the Practical Nursing student with a solid foundation of pharmacological principles, knowledge of dose calculations, and specific medication categories.
Practical Nursing I
This course introduces the student to the profession of nursing and the role and responsibilities of the Licensed Practical Nurse. It provides an overview of the history of nursing. The development of the Practical Nurse is reviewed from the affective domain and the concepts of caring, spirituality, and cultural competence are explored. The concepts of rationality, self-awareness, and open-mindedness, as parts of the process that guides critical thinking and responsible decision making, are presented. Basic nursing skills and health assessment are taught and reinforced in laboratory and clinical settings. Introductions to the nursing process and concise legal documentation are presented.
